Law & Order began as an optimistic and realistic portrait of the criminal justice system. It became very popular because it was often ripped off headlines, as NBC commercials say, meaning that for now, it was based on controversial cases and news that was covered in detail throughout the show. This allowed viewers to stay invested in the plot of the series before they even saw the episode. In addition, the inclusion of a more diverse cast of characters allowed the series to appeal to a wider audience and secure their prestigious Long Runner status. When the series was cancelled after its 20th season and subsequent attempts to revive it failed, Dick Wolf lamented with optimism that the series “entered the history books.” However, in late 2021, it was announced that NBC would be bringing the series back for its 21st season after a ten-year hiatus. Waterston and Anthony Anderson will reprise their respective roles as DA McCoy and Detective Bernard, respectively, with Jeffrey Donovan as the new NYPD detective, Camryn Manheim as the lieutenant and Hugh Dancy and Odelya Halevi as the ADA. Season 21 premiered on February 24, 2022. Bloody sheets and an apparently stolen credit card lead Briscoe and Curtis to a college-aged couple, Christina Talbert and Tommy Horton, who present McCoy and Ross with a united front of denial that one of them killed their newborn son and disposed of the body. Over the course of the show`s 20 seasons, twenty-seven different actors starred in all six lead roles, with a significant number of recurring guest stars.
Long-time notable actors include S. Epatha Merkerson as Lt. Anita Van Buren (seasons 4–20), Sam Waterston as Executive A.D.A. (later D.A.) Jack McCoy (seasons 5–20), Jerry Orbach as Detective Lennie Briscoe (seasons 3–14), Steven Hill as D.A. Adam Schiff (seasons 1–10), Benjamin Bratt as Detective Rey Curtis (seasons 5–9), Jesse L. Martin as Detective Ed Green (seasons 10–18), Chris Noth as Detective Mike Logan (seasons 1–5), former U.S. Senator Fred Dalton Thompson as D.A. Arthur Branch (seasons 13–17) and Alana de la Garza as Connie Rubirosa (seasons 17–20).
Very little is known about the characters` personal lives, with all the emphasis on the story formula, which was part of the reason for the constant character changes; Actors often complained that it was extremely repetitive. Every character in the show was replaced at least once for this reason, and the show ended with a completely different cast from the start. Nevertheless, the emphasis on formula makes the show very easy to rehearse on different cable sockets. In addition, the characters in the series were well enough written to warrant relatively superficial information about them; Jerry Orbach`s clever character, Detective Lennie Briscoe, has often been seen as portraying the quintessential New York City policeman. This episode could have finally been a season, it was a surprise that Green did not arrive at the last episode of the season. There were some really good episodes the rest of the season like Strike, but it would have been great to see Ed Green 9 whole seasons, yes he missed 4 or 5 episodes in season 15. Thank you Jesse Martin for 9 years of law and order. Curtis and Briscoe investigate the death of Josef Moussad, an Arab man who was found behind a dumpster and was the victim of an apparent robbery. The detectives soon realize that Musad has brought a doctor to the country to perform a clitoridectomy on his young niece, and suspicion turns to the family. Ross is appalled that both young Alison`s grandmother and uncle fully supported the operation, making it difficult for her to pursue the case objectively.
The cast of season 8 remained unchanged from season 7. Carey Lowell, who played Jamie Ross, left the show at the end of season 8, but made a special appearance as a criminal defense attorney in the season 10 episode “Justice” and the season 11 episode “School Daze,” as well as a judge in Law & Order: Trial by Jury. Carolyn McCormick as Dr. Elizabeth Olivet does not appear in this season, season 11 or 12. It`s the old week of home for Briscoe when an apparent murder of Britney Janaway, a teenage model in New York City, develops ties to Baltimore, and Detectives Munch and Falsone visit the Big Apple to watch the case. Meanwhile, McCoy is fighting the victim`s parents` lawyer for access to his clients while fighting the Baltimore DA for jurisdiction. Detectives Briscoe and Curtis break up the seemingly accidental murder of Matthew Wheeler, a fried chicken supplier who turned out to be a thrill, with a bit of “undercover” work in the park, but McCoy and Ross face an uphill battle for a conviction when two defendants, Joey Timon and Dale Kershaw, point the finger resolutely. And the only element that identifies the real murderer is the recording of a confession to a priest. Meanwhile, Detective Curtis learns that his wife has multiple sclerosis. Law & Order is a long-form drama film directed by Dick Wolf that originally aired on NBC from 1990 to 2010 (20 seasons, 456 episodes). Schiff`s re-election may depend on the stabbing death of Dana Flynn, a police officer; Briscoe`s daughter is arrested for drug trafficking.
The basic concept of the series is a mix and a match, with the first half of each episode, “Law”, featuring detectives from the NYPD`s 27th District trying to solve a crime (Police Procedural), and the second half, “Order”, featuring the Manhattan District Attorney`s Office trying to prosecute the same case (Law Procedural). The series has sparked a lot of pop culture osmosis since its inception, as it is very well ingrained in the public consciousness for its dramatic depiction of murder cases based on real or controversial cases. This has also led to some problems, as public figures crack down on bias in the broadcast or damaging coverage of certain news. However, the series spawned a number of spin-offs, all of which can be found here. A 10-year-old girl, Malika Richardson, is raped and made comatose by a pedophile. A snitch offers Briscoe the chance to avenge his daughter`s death. With NYPD leadership attempting to force Lt. Van Buren out of office, McCoy must deal with Judge Feldman as an adversary both in and out of court, due to an ethics complaint the judge filed against him. As all this continues, Schiff begins to consider the possibility that Feldman could defeat him in the election. Eventually, Ross quit his ADA job to devote more time to his family life and his ongoing divorce.
Sorry, I posted above and forgot to add this, but I agree with samfan.
