However, the majority of U.S. states and most federal courts have abandoned the hearing year and the related concept of hearing hours.
Instead, they reverse the assumption. They simply state that courts must be open year-round during the hours of operation of any day that is not Saturday, Sunday or a holiday. A typical example is rule 77(c)(1) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, which states: “The Office of the Registrar of the Tribunal. must be open during business hours every day except Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. In addition, 28 U.S.C. § 452 states that “all courts in the United States shall be deemed always open to the filing of appropriate documents, the issuance and return of trials, and the filing of petitions and orders.” Hong Kong`s legal year is marked as the ceremonial opening of the legal year with a speech by Hong Kong`s Chief Justice and begins in January. The beginning of the judicial year of the courts in Taiwan is called the day of the courts and is celebrated in early January. In Ireland, the year is divided according to the English system, with identical terms from Michaelmas, Hilary, Easter and Trinity. These each have a Christmas, Easter, Pentecost and a long holiday. Michaelmas` term and legal year are celebrated with a service in the St. Michan`s Church opens in Dublin, in the presence of members of the Bar and the Law Society, who then adjourn for breakfast at King`s Inns. It is traditionally divided into periods called “terms”. Lubna met with Malaysian Bar Council Chair Karen Cheah and Richard Wee, an active member, to expand cooperation in the legal services sector between the two jurisdictions. Several Midwestern and East Coast states, as well as some federal courts, still use the legal year and hearing hours. Like the Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit has a one-year term with sessions designated during that term, although the Second Circuit begins its term in August instead of October (hence the name “August Term”). The U.S. Tax Court divides the year into four seasonal terms starting in January.
