In collaboration with Blind Ferret Entertainment, The First Law – The Comic was adapted by Chuck Dixon, with graphics by Andie Tong, colors by Pete Pantazis, lettering and design by Bill Tortolini. Only the first four chapters have been published. Although there has been no official announcement, no further chapters are planned. Joe Abercrombie commented: “Unfortunately it is currently parked. I was very happy about it, but it just wasn`t successful enough – graphic novels are a tough market, unless you`re dealing with established real estate. If physical editions continue to sell, there`s a chance they`ll be revived. We`il see. The title of the first book is taken from a quote from Homer in The Odyssey: “The blade itself incites acts of violence.” A Little Hatred is now out. After many years and many short stories and independent novels, Joe Abercrombie is moving the narrative forward, which was already established in 2006 with The Blade Itself.
The First Law Author Joe Abercrombie Published by Gollancz (UK) & Pyr (USA) The First Law is a series of dark and modern fantasy novels by British author Joe Abercrombie. The first three novels form a trilogy, while the other stories are independent but interconnected novels. A new trilogy set in the same world began in September 2019. There are two major theatres of war. The first took place in the north between the Union and the Scandinavians invading the northern province of Angland of the Union. The second was to the south between the Union and the Gurkish Empire, who were attempting to annex the Union city of Dagoska. The trilogy focuses on the fate of a variety of characters navigating these and other conflicts. The trilogy follows the stories of six characters whose paths often cross. Since we guys and girls have my very first book summary, and a pretty detailed one! It lasted its sweet joyful moment, but I really enjoyed reliving the book even though I was just reading it! Watch out for other summaries, I`m sure to finish this series! The revolution is progressing rapidly and a new transformation is underway in the Union.
The first to leave are the shores of Master Bayaz. Savine dan Glokta manages to become a popular heroine and mother of the nation after her struggle against the rebel leaders, and her husband manages to gather enough forces to take control of the government. After discovering that Savine and King Orso are related, he manages to get rid of the king and announce that his newborn son (Savine had twins) was a new one. The ex-king Orso is hanged, which leads to new tensions between him and his wife. A new order is established. In the North, Rikke manages to defeat Calder and becomes the undisputed ruler of the North. In the end, it is shown that the true master planner of the failed rebellion is Savine`s father, Glokta. He wanted to free the Union from Bayaz`s influence. And in his daughter`s words, he set fire to half the world so he could rule the other half. The Bayaz banks no longer exist, and with them his control over the Union is gone. After ignoring Ardee for a while due to West`s small explosion, he is surprised to see a message from her asking for a secret nightly meeting.
This is not the smartest time to have them in mind, because it is time for the first fights of the fencing competition. Jezal is not ready for competition and is quite nervous despite his usual arrogance, although once he enters the grove of his matches, he realizes that he had no reason to be nervous and continues to win against his competitors. He goes to party with his friends, but he soon realizes that he wants to get a little nooky! Although he is quite late, he goes to meet Ardee. Surprisingly, she is still there and the two start flirting and soon the two kiss like stars. At the fire elsewhere, Bayaz begins to tell the group about his mistakes. He told them that he was Juven`s first apprentice, although he soon recruited 11 others, including Khalul (religious leader of the Gurkish). They quarreled, became rivals and eventually had to be separated. Bayaz was looking for a new master in Kenedias, the Creator. He soon discovered that he loved Kanedias` beautiful daughter, Tolomei.
He got dirty with Tolomei and Kanedias was not impressed, so Bayaz ran away. After telling his story, the others tell stories from their lives. The first book introduces the three main characters of the trilogy and three secondary characters. Logen Ninefingers is a warrior who gained a formidable reputation for bringing Bethod to power in the north, but has since fallen out with him. Logen and his small team of friends flee after being attacked by Shanka creatures. Logen is separated from his team and goes his own way. He meets Bayaz, a powerful secular mage, who enlists Logen`s help to accompany him to Adua. Sand dan Glokta investigates the Inquisition in a corruption case, which leads him to uncover broader corruption among traders. His superiors distract him to investigate Bayaz. Jezal, a vain young nobleman who became an officer in the Union Army because of his connections, is training for a prestigious sword fighting tournament. He falls in love with Ardee, the sister of his superior Collem, and wins the tournament with Bayaz`s help. At a party, Bayaz is challenged to prove who he is by entering the house of the Creator.
The main characters of the book gather to accompany Bayaz into the building. Bayaz retrieves an artifact and announces his plan to retrieve the seed, a powerful magical artifact that can help him confront Khalul and the Gurkish Empire. The book also follows the journey of Logen`s companions, led by Dogman, to warn Bethod about the Shanka, and Ferro, an escaped Gurki slave who travels with another mage to find Bayaz. The Scandinavians were not particularly happy with the old Ninefingers after the events of the last quarrel of the kings. For a time, he was proclaimed King of the North, but his reign was so short. Violent tendencies and a lack of allies eventually overwhelmed the lodges, and he was almost offended by Black Dow. The conspiracy left this character, arguably the main protagonist of the series, struggling to survive in a choppy river, similar to how we first meet him. It is not certain that it will survive, although it is quite obvious that we will see it again.
In what function, remains to be seen. Thanks for reading and please, as this is my first summary, let me know if you have any constructive criticism. If you`re going to be a dick. Keep it to yourself! After surviving his encounter with the Shanka and falling off the cliff, Logan talks to the ghosts (something that only he can possibly do, but not for long, as the ghosts fade), they inform him that Bayaz, the first of the mages, is looking for him. The first of the independent books takes place about three years after the trilogy. Set entirely in Styria, an island-continent reminiscent of Italy during the Italian Wars, it focuses on the revenge of a betrayed mercenary leader, Monza Murcatto. Logen is on the run from King Bethod and falls off a cliff. His friend, the Dogman, thinks he is dead.
Bayaz, the first of the Magi, refused to commit himself to Bethodes and then went to the Union with lodges and his apprentice to take his seat in the closed council. Jezal meets Major West`s sister, Ardée, and falls in love. Jezal trains for competition and wins, unknowingly with the magical help of Bayaz. Glokta is ordered to prove that Bayaz is a fraud. Bayaz proves his identity by opening the Creator`s house and retrieving a mysterious box. Ferro is found by Yulwei and taken to Bayaz in Adua. The Inquisition attempts to capture Logen and Ferro, but fails when Bayaz blows up a guy. Meanwhile, Betud`s emissaries show up and declare war on the Union. Major West is enlisted on Marshall Burrs` staff and asks Glokta to take care of his sister while he is at war.
